Well I was right, it was darn cold at the station today, closed after the first train, it was below –11c when I arrived first thing.
Here is a picture looking west taken around 8am when the freezing fog was lifting. Plus one looking from the gate towards the long closed toilets.
Desolate was an understatement, soup and hot food could not keep the cold out so as I say we called it a day after the first service which arrived 58 minutes late due to water and points problems in the cold. The first service was diesel instead of steam as they had water problems at Wansford.
I have said it before and I will say it again, the crews who turn up at 5am in weather like this have my admiration, I can’t praise them enough.
Now it is fair to say we did get some sunshine but it has never got above freezing all day, here are an assortment of pictures through the time I was there.
I am not opening tomorrow it’s just too cold.
Now sitting in the warm and I note it’s down to –5.4c and dropping nicely.
